Veneers
Veneers should not be confused with Crowns, which are explained below.
Veneers can help create a beautiful 'Hollywood' smile if you are conscious of your front teeth. This may be because they are chipped, stained, gappy or just not as perfect as you wish they were.
What are Veneers?
They are thin sheets of a porcelain or composite material that requires minimal preparation of the tooth. This is then attached only to the very front part of the tooth that is on show, changing the shape and/or colour of the tooth to that which you desire.
Crowns
What is a Crown?
A dental crown is a custom made to fit ‘cap’ that sits on top of a prepared tooth to give it strength and support.
When might I need a Crown?
One of our dentists may recommend you have a crown placed over a tooth for one of the following reasons:
-
Replacing a large filling if there is not enough of the natural tooth left.
-
Protecting a weak tooth from fracturing
-
Restoring a fractured tooth
-
Attaching a Bridge
-
Covering a discoloured or poorly shaped tooth
-
Covering a tooth that has had Root Canal Treatment
-
For aesthetic reasons
Does it look natural?
There are various types of crown materials that we can use to give you a really natural look. Your dentist can design the crown with you to give the exact shade, shape and look to blend in with your natural teeth.
Bridges
What is a bridge?
A bridge is an option for some patients to replace a missing tooth. The preparation for a bridge is that like a having a crown, which involves shaping and filing the adjacent teeth to the missing space. The bridge is then permanently "glued" into place replacing the gap in a natural looking way.
